What is a carer/care assistant?

A care assistant supports Service users with personal care, household duties and companionship.

Carers/ Care Assistants support people to live independently in the comfort of their own home by providing them with an invaluable service that enables them to continue staying in the home they know, love and can live life in the way they choose.

What does a home carer/care assistant do?

Meal preparation

Healthy, nutritious and tasty meals can play a key role in enjoying a better quality of life. Service users might ask you to warm up a microwave meal for them or just prepare a light bite.

Medication

Service users living with medical conditions may need assistance with medication; we'll make sure you're fully trained in helping to administer medication safely and appropriately.

Personal care

This can include things like helping a Service user to bathe, toilet and dress, and assisting them in matters of personal hygiene.

Running errands

Many of our service users aren't able to get out and about as much as they'd like, so they may ask you to pick up some groceries or head to the post office on their behalf.

Clinical care

Service users with more complex health conditions may require clinical care, where you may work alongside a qualified nurse to deliver a more specialised type of support.

Household chores

Household chores can include tasks like vacuuming, doing the laundry, cleaning and other time-consuming activities which our less mobile service users need assistance with.

Companionship

Sometimes a service user’s need is simply company. Whether it's enjoying a cup of tea and cake or helping them to finish their jigsaw puzzle, companionship can do the world good.

Pet care

Some of our service users own pets which they're not fully able to take care of themselves, so there may be times when you're asked to top up their water bowl.

Mobility assistance

If a service user is living with a physical disability, a limiting medical condition or age-related frailty they may need help moving around the house - particularly with getting in and out of bed and visiting the bathroom.

What is a live in carer?

A live-in carer provides round-the-clock support for someone who chooses to live in their own home.

As a live-in carer you'll be living with the service user in their home providing support whenever they require. We'll make sure you're trained to help the service user in a wide range of ways - from personal care and bathing, to accompanying them to appointments and carrying out household duties. You'll get to spend quality time with them and provide vital companionship, but you'll also get time(Breaks) and space to yourself.

What does a live in carer do?

Meal preparation

Preparing a diverse range of healthy meals can be a huge part of effective live-in care. Our live-in carers offer meal preparation for breakfast, lunch and dinner, although some customers choose to do their own cooking with support from the live in carer.

Medication

One of the things you'll learn when you join Ringstead is how to help service users administer their medication in a safe and appropriate manner.

Pet care

One of the benefits of receiving care at home is that service users are not separated from their furry friends. Some of our live-in carers help by taking pets for walks and ensuring they're properly fed.

Running errands

It's likely that the service user will be living with limited mobility, so they may ask you to do their weekly shopping for them or pick up a prescription on their behalf.

Household chores

Taking care of the time-consuming tasks around the home gives the service user the opportunity to devote their energy to the things they enjoy.

Personal care

A big reason why many people opt for live-in care is to have round-the-clock assistance with routines such as toileting, bathing and dressing.

Companionship

One of your main responsibilities will be to ensure the service user isn't left feeling isolated or unsupported. Companionship might mean sitting down with them for a cup of tea while you watch a quiz show together.

Mobility assistance

You may need to help the service user access certain parts of their home and support with strenuous activities like getting into bed. We'll make sure you're fully trained to provide safe mobility assistance.

Nurse-supported care

If the service user is living with a complex or advanced medical condition, it's likely they'll require more sophisticated care. In this instance, you may work alongside a fully qualified nurse to provide clinical care.

Your Choice,
Your Life

Delivered by reliable carers, our home care services are tailored to your needs and preferences.
